About Us: Empowering Education on the Mekong Delta

Welcome to VEBS, the Vietnamese Educational Boat Scheme. We're a dedicated non-governmental organisation committed to transforming education in the heart of Vietnam's Mekong Delta through innovative floating boat schools. Discover our story and how we're making a difference.

The VEBS Story

In the vast, flood-prone Mekong Delta, riverine communities face constant challenges. Access to quality education remains a critical need. According to UNICEF's 2022 data, the Mekong Delta has the highest rate of out-of-school children in the country. VEBS is striving to create weekly routes on the Mekong waterways and teach English with Computer Skills to areas with little schooling by the state education system. Reaching schools close to the river and communities on the river.

Addressing the Education Gap

Children in these areas experience higher dropout rates across all levels. A staggering 47% of upper secondary school-aged children from the poorest quantile are out of school, while rural secondary enrolment stands at just 76% compared to 90% in urban areas. These statistics highlight the urgent gaps where state infrastructure struggles to reach remote, water-bound villages.

VEBS will attempt to return dropout rates to higher retention levels with this new concept of teaching available to the local communities.

Our Mission

Driven by our passion for equitable education, VEBS deploys mobile floating classrooms to deliver high-quality State education with TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) programs directly to these underserved rural areas. We empower children with vital language skills and brighter futures that traditional systems cannot adequately provide.
